EU-hosted co-browsing: how to choose

Short answer
“EU-hosted” can mean very different things. Check three layers: where sessions are processed, who owns the co-browsing company, and whether EU hosting is the default or an extra. The strongest setup is EU servers, run by an EU-owned company, on every plan.
1. Where are sessions processed?
Ask for the country, not just “Europe”. Some vendors store data in the US by default and offer an EU region on request. Others only offer EU hosting on enterprise plans.
2. Who owns the vendor?
A company headquartered outside the EU can be subject to its home country’s laws, even when its servers are in Frankfurt or Dublin. That is why many EU public bodies, banks and insurers now ask for providers that are EU-owned as well as EU-hosted.
3. Is EU hosting the default?
If EU hosting is an option, check it is switched on for your account, and whether it costs extra. If it is the default for everyone, there is nothing to forget.
