Is co-browsing secure? What agents can and can’t see

What can the agent see?

• The page of your website the customer is on.
• What the customer types and clicks on that page.
• The customer’s mouse pointer.

What can’t the agent see?

• Other browser tabs or websites.
• Other apps, files or messages on the computer.
• Anything at all, until the customer types the PIN.

The one exception is screen share. If the agent asks and the customer accepts, the agent sees the window or desktop the customer chooses. It is a separate, clear step.

Five questions to ask any co-browsing vendor

1. Does the customer have to agree before control or screen share?
2. Can sensitive fields, like card numbers, be hidden from agents?
3. Where is session data processed, and who owns the provider?
4. Are sessions recorded by default, or only if you turn it on?
5. What security certificates does the vendor hold?
